Canucks into playoff round at 11U AA Tier I baseball provincials

Moose Jaw perfect 3-0 in 11U preliminary round; Canucks win final game of round robin in 15U AA Tier III provincials

It’s been so far, so good for the Moose Jaw Canucks as hosts of the Baseball Sask 11U AA Tier I provincial championship this weekend at Bell Park.

The Canucks have posted a 3-0 record through the preliminary round of the 10-team tournament and as a result will be playing in the semifinal on Sunday afternoon.

While their opponent is to be determined, the Canucks will be on either Baba or Gamble Field at 12:30 p.m., with the winner of that contest playing for gold at 3:30 p.m. at Baba Field.

The Canucks haven’t left much to chance in their tournament run thus far, either. They opened the tournament with a 12-2 win over the Balcarres Broncs on Friday afternoon before battling to a 10-7 win over the Saskatoon A’s on Saturday morning and finishing off the round robin with an 11-4 win over the Muenster Red Sox Saturday afternoon.

The Saskatoon Cardinals Chaos, Swift Current 57’s and White Butte Broncos also finished 3-0 and will be the other playoff teams.

The Canucks haven’t had as much luck as hosts of the 15U AA Tier 3 tournament at Blackwell and Swarbrick Diamonds.

Moose Jaw lost a heartbreaker in their opener 5-4 to the White Butte Broncos on Friday and split their games Saturday, losing 10-7 to the White Butte Broncos and winning their final round robin game 15-4 over the Esterhazy Cyclones.

Interestingly enough, the way things were playing out had the Canucks still hopeful for a tiebreaker at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning. The top two teams from each round robin pool after tiebreaskers advance to the semifinals at 12 p.m., followed by the gold medal game at 3 p.m. at Blackwell Diamond.
