The contest, played in sweltering conditions at Gattinger Park, saw the Canucks rally with five runs in the bottom of the sixth and get the game-tying run on base in the final inning, but the Pacers would get the next two outs and record the one-run victory.
That they were in the game at all was a testament to their stick-to-itiveness: Regina scored four runs in the third inning to build a 7-2 lead but would see the Canucks steadily chip away, closing to within 8-4 in the fifth.
The Pacers put up a pair of runs in their half of the sixth before the Canucks sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the inning, scoring their five runs and getting the tying run into scoring position before falling short.
Kyren Ernest led the way with a 2-for 3 night that saw him score three runs, while Brogan Bowes went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two runs batted in. Zayden Anderson finished the night 1-for-2 with a pair of runs and two walks, while Rhett Prior was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two walks.
Anderson got the start on the mound, giving up three runs on three hits while striking out three before giving way to Prior, who allowed four runs on a hit, three walks and three strikeouts in an inning of work. Bowes held down the fort from there, tossing the final four innings and scattering five hits, giving up three runs and striking out eight.
The Canucks are back in action Friday night when they travel to White Butte to face the Broncos.
