After putting together a stellar showing in the round robin, Team Canada is now playing the waiting game at the World Wheelchair Curling Championship in Richmond, B.C.
Canada -- including Moose Jaw Curling Centre competitor Gil Dash at second and Marie Wright as alternate -- capped off their preliminary round with a 7-3 victory over Denmark on Thursday night to finish with a 9-2 record and in second place in the standings behind 10-1 China.
Dash and Wright are joined by skip Mark Ideson, third Ina Forrest and lead Jon Thurston at the 12-team event.
The contest against Denmark’s Kenneth Oerbaek was a comfortable one for Canada, as they took a 2-1 lead in the second end and never looked back. They added a steal of two in the fourth and another single in the fifth to build a 5-1 lead, and after a Denmark deuce in the sixth, scored single points the next two ends for the four-point win.
Team Canada now awaits the the winner of either Korea and Scotland or Sweden and the United States, with those two quarter-final games taking place Friday evening.
The semifinals are set for 12 p.m. Moose Jaw time on Saturday from Richmond, and fans can follow along with the action at www.worldcurling.org.
A win Saturday, and Canada is off to the gold medal game at 8 a.m. on Sunday, with the bronze medal game also taking place at that time.
