Canada closes out preliminary round with 5-2 win

Team Canada finished up the preliminary round at the World Under-18 Hockey Championship last night with a 5-2 win over Belarus.

The win gives Canada a perfect 4-0 record, earning the top spot in Group A.

Canada opened the scoring early with a goal from captain Shane Wright, who finished with two goals on the night.  Mason McTavish also had a pair, while Olen Zellweger scored the other goal for Canada.

Former Moose Jaw Warriors prospect Corson Ceuleman had two assists. Warriors defenceman Denton Mateychuk also played in the game but did not hit the scoresheet.

Andrei Loshko and Ilya Morozov scored for Belarus.

Canada will now face the Czech Republic on Monday afternoon in the quarterfinals.
