Bushell Park’s Nord posts top-30 finishes in biathlon at Canada Winter Games

Team Sask competitor finishes 28th overall in six-kilometre sprint, 29th place in 7.5 km pursuit at elite multi-sport event

Bushell Park’s Kaycee Nord has her first two races in the books at the Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island.

Competing in biathlon at the Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park, Nord finished in 28th place in the six-kilometre sprint on Monday before crossing the line in 29th place in the 7.5 km pursuit on Tuesday.

Nord -- who has competed in the skiing-and-shooting sport for the past eight years and saw action in the 2018 Sask Winter Games -- put down a time of 24:59.6 in her opening race and folllowed with a time of 43:32.1 in her second showing.

The 17-year-old Peacock student has one race remaining on her schedule when she takes to the track in the 10 km individual on Thursday afternoon.

Prudhomme’s Rhiann Arnold had a stellar showing in the six- km sprint, finishing in 19:16.3 to earn a bronze medal.

Nord is the lone athlete from Moose Jaw and area in action during the first week of the Games, with competitors in judo, figure skating and female hockey all in action during week two.
