BREAKING: Police charge man with attempted murder after incident at apartment

The Moose Jaw and District Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at an apartment building on July 5 and found a man shot and requiring medical attention.

The Moose Jaw Police Service has charged a 34-year-old man with attempted murder after police and firefighters were called to an apartment building for a reported fire.

The Moose Jaw Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at an apartment building on the 200 block of High Street East on July 5. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a man had been shot and required immediate medical attention. Police were then called to the scene.

Officers arrested a man at the scene without incident and recovered a firearm. The police service indicated that it does not believe there are other suspects while there is no further risk to the community with this incident. 

The lone victim, a 44-year-old male, received serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect remains in custody and will appear in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Thursday, July 7.

The fire department later determined that there was no fire and no damage.
