MOOSEJAWTODAY.COM — The Born to Be Arts Academy hits the Mae Wilson Theatre’s stage for its production of Disney’s Newsies tonight.

This show will be performed on four occasions between the 23rd and the 25th. The first showing takes place tonight, May 23 at 7:00 pm, followed by a performance tomorrow night Friday, May 24 at 7:00 pm, and a last two showings to take place on May 25th at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

The over 60 members of the cast and crew have been hard at work perfecting this show to be a performance you’ll never forget. There are two acts, both being an hour and a half long of non-stop music, acting, and dancing.

Something really special about this production is what students are taking part in this production. This production takes all the top actors from each high school in Moose Jaw and has them perform a show together.

This means all the kids who got the leads in their school production now get to perform in a much larger production, creating an all-stars-type cast. This enables the students to build and develop their skills, not only their theatrical skills but also their leadership and teamwork.

"The talent in this show is really incredible, and many of them (the students) will be pursuing post-secondary education in musical theatre. So the talent that is shown is extremely impressive," explained Jessika Kopp, the director of this production.

Disney’s Newsies is based on the 1992 movie and an inspiring true story. It follows a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged "newsies," set in turn-of-the-century New York City.

Suddenly, Jack finds himself in turmoil when titans of the publishing industry raise distribution prices at the newsboys' expense. Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what's right.

Born to Be Art Academy is a laid-back and fun fine arts institution. They strive to provide excellent training to all children in a positive atmosphere.

They have many programs available for your kids, whether they want to dance with the Born2Dance program, unleash their acting abilities with the Triple Threat Theatre Company, learn about the joy of creating music with the Music Arts program, or engage in a more physical program like Hands-on Arts or Impact Taekwondo.

Whatever your child’s interest may be, Born to Be Arts will likely foster that passion.
