Bail hearing set for man accused of fleeing police, crashing into fence

A bail hearing has been set for Mahamed Bashir Farah, who is accused of allegedly evading police and crashing into a fence.

Farah, 32, of Edmonton, appeared by phone in Moose Jaw provincial court on April 20, where his charges were adjourned to Thursday, April 23. A bail verification report will be prepared and presented during the show-cause hearing to provide more information about whether Farah could be a candidate for release.

According to a police news release, on April 19 around 7:30 p.m., police on patrol on South Hill detected a possible impaired driver. The motorist then allegedly fled from police before crashing into a fence at Sixth Avenue Southwest and Duffield Street West.

Farah was arrested on scene. He has been charged with:

  • one count of driving while disqualified;
  • one count of flight from police;
  • one count of impaired operation of a conveyance;
  • one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
  • six counts of failing to comply with recognizance.

Farah will remain in custody until his bail hearing.
