In April, the Moose Jaw Art Guild (MJAG) reached out to Robin Schlaht at the Saskatchewan Network for Art Collecting (SKNAC) to see if he could help with an art auction to raise money for the Canadian Red Cross Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal.

Schlaht thought the idea was fantastic and reached out to art organizations across Saskatchewan to help.

“When Karen (Whitney of the MJAG) contacted us, we realized that maybe we should work with the guilds and the art clubs and the coops,” Schlaht told MooseJawToday.com in April.

The auction ran on the SKNAC website from April 13 to May 8. The goal was to collect around 100 pieces of donated art and raise at least $10,000 for Ukraine humanitarian aid. Schlaht pledged that 100 per cent of each winning bid would go to the Canadian Red Cross.

The total is 111 pieces of art sold — and $15,750 raised.

The Red Cross sent tax donation receipts to artists and collectors who participated. Most buyers were Canadian. Two pieces went international — one to a buyer in Denmark, another to a buyer in New York.

“I am very pleased with this successful humanitarian fundraiser,” Whitney said.
