Apr. 17 is National Canadian Film Day, and the Cultural Centre is celebrating the film scene with a showing of two Canadian films.

The Cultural Centre will be showing two films on the evening of Apr. 17, and admission is free for the event. Window Horses, an animated film about a young girl from Vancouver who travels to Iran for a poetry festival and learns more about her Persian roots, is a family-friendly story voiced by a cast of famous names: Sandra Oh, Ellen Page, and Don McKellar to name drop a few. The show will begin at 6pm.

Rhymes for Young Ghouls is an 18+ science fiction/fantasy drama, set in 1976 on the Red Crow Mi’kmaq reserve, and tells a story of a young girl making her way through a tough life hustling drugs and growing up with a tumultuous family history. Described as part fable, part small-town drama, Rhymes for Young Ghouls imagines a dark time in Canada’s history and treatment of Indigenous people. The show will begin at 8:30pm.

The Western Development Museum will also be hosting a number of short films from the National Film Board the week of Apr. 20 – 28, with admission to the Museum. The shows are family-friendly and will run daily, on a repeated loop, so stopping by anytime between 9am and 5pm at the theatre will ensure you can see all of the films on showcase.

The lineup includes: The Dingles (1988), Higglety Pigglety Pop! or There Must Be More to Life (2010), with more to be announced later.
