Ackerman finishes round robin tied for first at junior women's curling provincials

Page playoff 1-2 game up next for Moose Jaw skip with spot in final or semifinal on line

Skylar Ackerman is through to the Page playoffs at the Saskatchewan junior women's curling championship in Saskatoon.

Ackerman, 18, and her Saskatoon Nutana rink of third Emily Haupstein, second Taylor Stremick and lead Abbey Johnson capped the round robin in first place after taking a 5-4 win over Saskatoon Sutherland's Ashley Thevenot in their final round robin contest on Tuesday morning.

The former Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre competitor needed to go to the limit to win the contest, too, as despite taking a 4-1 lead into the seventh end, Ackerman found herself tied 4-4 coming home. She's make perfect use of the hammer, though, taking the one to earn the win.

The win knocked Thevenot from the ranks of the undefeated and saw the two teams finish tied with 6-1 records.

They get to do it all over again at 4 p.m., as Ackerman and Thevenot will play in Page 1-2 game, with the winner advancing to the final and the loser dropping down to play the winner of Saskatoon Sutherland's Madison Kleiter and Regina Callie's Krystal Englot in the semfinal at 8 p.m.

The gold medal game takes place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
