As it turns out, winning your two exhibition games in dominating fashion and not even allowing a goal in the process will drum up plenty of fan interest.

The Moose Jaw AAA Warriors announced Friday morning that their Sask Male AAA Hockey League home opener against the Yorkton Maulers on Sunday afternoon is officially sold out, having reached the 150-person cap in place during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While Mosaic Place could naturally accommodate more fans, officials have decided to use only one side of the arena while maintaining social distancing, which sees every second row in use and fans encouraged to stay at least six feet apart while seated, in addition to moving around the arena as little as possible.

Masks will also be mandatory for all fans.

A waiting list is in place and fans can e-mail manageraaawarriors@gmail.com to be added to it.

The news isn’t all bad for those with a hankering for hometown hockey -- the contest will be streamed on the AAA Warriors’ Facebook page beginning at 1:30 p.m. You can find their page by clicking here.

The Warriors will play a modified 30-game schedule this season against teams from only the southern part of the province -- the Regina Pat Canadians, Swift Current Legionnaires, Yorkton Maulers, Notre Dame Hounds and re-located Estevan Bears -- in order to minimize travel and potential COVID exposure.

Contests will be exclusively on weekends, and will feature home-and-home games between teams.

Check out the SMAAAHL website for the Warriors’ full schedule.
