The Moose Jaw AAA Warriors made things interesting against the league-leading Warman Wildcats on Friday night but ended up falling short when things were said and done.

The Warriors surrendered two goals in each period in Warman and would go on to drop a 6-3 decision in Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League action.

Wyatt Lacoste scored the Warriors’ opening goal at the 7:13 mark of the first and after Warman took a 2-1 lead into the second, Orin Olson tied things up 5:13 into the period.

There the score remained until the frame’s waning moments when Rhett Dekowny scored his second of the game at 1:27 to give Warman the lead. Jaydon Jessiman then added his second goal with nine seconds to play to put the Wildcats ahead 4-2.

Jessiman wrapped up his hat trick 1:44 into the third, but Conner Miller saw to it things wouldn’t be comfortable down the stretch for the Wildcats as he scored for Moose Jaw with 5:56 to play.

That would be as close as the local squad would get, though, as Dekowny scored his third with 43 seconds remaining to put things away.

Olson also had an assist to finish the game with two points.

Ryan Bain had 32 saves for the Warriors, Luke Brunen turned aside 23 shots for Warman.

The Warriors fell to 16-10-0-1 with the loss and sit in fifth place in the 12-team league, four points back of the Saskatoon Blazers and three up on the Saskatoon Contacts, although both teams have four games in hand.

Warman is now 22-4-0-1 and are two points up on the Notre Dame Hounds.

The two teams are back at it Saturday in the final game for both squads before the Christmas break.
