Heading into their Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League contest with the Estevan Bears on Saturday night, the Moose Jaw Warriors were simply looking to get back on track after dropping their previous two contests.

They were able to do that and then some.

The Warriors roared out to a 5-0 lead through two periods and would cruise to a 6-2 victory over the Bears at Mosaic Place.

The win saw the Warriors join the 20-win club, as they now sport a 20-12-0-1 record and sit four points back of the fourth-place Regina Pat Canadians and three up on the Saskatoon Contacts.

Things were close in the first period, as Connor Miller scored the lone goal of the opening frame at the 7:13 mark.

That all changed early in the second, as Wyatt LaCoste, Jackson Allan and Rowan Calvert all scored before the period was nine minutes old to extend Moose Jaw’s lead to 4-0. LaCoste added his second of the game before the period was out, and things were all but academic from there.

Carson Birnie and Tucker Buhay got two back for Estevan in the final period but would get no closer, as Daxin Peterson scored an empty-net goal with 2:05 remaining to close out scoring.

Ryan Bain picked up the win in goal with a 25-save performance, while the Warriors had 44 shots on the Bears’ Jackson Miller.

The Warriors are back in action on Tuesday night at Mosaic Place when they face the first-place Warman Wildcats in a game rescheduled from Jan. 9. Game time is 7:45 p.m.
