80 new COVID-19 cases, 5 deaths reported, 253 recoveries

Five Saskatchewan residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have died. One death was reported in the 60 to 69 age group from the Far North West zone; two deaths were reported in the 80-plus age group from the North Central zone; one death was reported in the 80-plus age group from the Saskatoon zone; and one death was reported in the 80-plus age group from the South East zone.

That brings the total number of deaths in the province to 346.

There are 80 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Feb. 9, 2021. That is the lowest number of cases reported in one day in Saskatchewan in 2021.

The new cases are located in the Saskatoon (34), North West (13), Far North East (7), North Central (7), Far North West (5), Central East (5), Regina (4), Central West (2), North East (1), and South Central (1) zones.

The new case in the South Central is located in the South Central 2 sub-zone, which includes Moose Jaw and area.

One case has pending residence information. 

There are now 25,654 reported cases, including 2,026 active cases.

The seven-day average of daily new cases is 203 (16.5 new cases per 100,000 population).

There were 1,252 COVID-19 vaccine doses administered yesterday in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 44,521. That means that 100 per cent of the doses received have been administered to date.  

The 1,252 doses were administered in the following zones: Central West (381), Far North West (294), North East (242), Far North East (162), North West (75), North Central (72), South East (15), and Far North Central (11). Back-dated corrections submitted for Jan. 22 to Feb. 6 have realized an additional 282 doses of vaccine administered.

The Public Health Agency of Canada has approved a regulatory change for the Pfizer vaccine from five doses to six doses per vial. This week's shipment of Pfizer will continue to be counted as five doses. Beginning next week, all Pfizer doses shipped to provinces and territories will be based on six doses per vial. The Ministry of Health and the Saskatchewan Health Authority are examining the potential impact to vaccine distribution plans.

Two hundred and six people are in hospital. One hundred and eighty people are receiving inpatient care in the following zones: Saskatoon (65), Regina (48), North Central (25), North West (21), Central East (10), Far North West (4), South East (3), North East (2), Central West (1), and South Central (1). Twenty-six people are in intensive care in the following zones: Saskatoon (10), Regina (10), Central East (3), North West (1), North Central (1),and South West (1).

Two hundred and fifty-three more people have recovered, increasing the provincial total to 23,282 recoveries. 

There were 1,910 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on Feb. 8. To date, 530,826 COVID-19 tests have been processed.
