202 new COVID-19 cases, 174 recoveries

There are 202 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Mar. 29, 2021.

The new cases are located in the Regina (101), Saskatoon (22), South East (16), North East (11), North Central (10), South Central (10), North West (9), Far North East (6), Central East (6), Central West (4), Far North West (2), and South West (1) zones.

All 10 new of the cases in the South Central are located in the South Central 2 sub-zone, which includes Moose Jaw and area.  

There are four cases with pending residence information.

There are no new deaths to report today. The provincial total remains at 433.

There are now 33,233 reported cases, including 1,978 active cases.  

The seven-day average of daily new cases is 199.3 (16.3 new cases per 100,000).  

As of yesterday, the Saskatchewan Health Authority reports that 1,474 variants of concern have been identified by screening in the province. They have been reported in the Regina (1,222), South Central (109), and South East (98), Central East (25), Saskatoon (17), Central West (2), and Far North East (1) zones.

There is one new lineage result to report today. There are now 495 VOCs with lineages identified by whole genome sequencing in Saskatchewan, 487 of which are B1.1.1.7 (UK), while eight are B1.351 (SA).  

A further 6,104 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Saskatchewan. The total number of vaccines administered in the province is now at 179,800.

The 6,104 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were given in the following regions: Saskatoon (2,270), South Central (1,971), Regina (1,280), and Central East (583).

A shipment of 46,600 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from the United States is expected to arrive in Saskatchewan this week.

Earlier today, the National Advisory Committee on Immunization issued updated guidelines on the use of AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD in Canada. They recommend that use for populations under 55 be paused, pending further review of vaccine safety. To this point, the AstraZeneca has been primarily used in at the drive thru clinic in Regina.

Saskatchewan will be following this recommendation.

One hundred sixty-two people are in hospital. One hundred and thirty-seven people are receiving inpatient care in the following zones: Regina (62), Saskatoon (38), North Central (9), Central East (9), South East (9), North West (6), Far North East (1), North East (1), South West (1), and South Central (1). Twenty-five people are in intensive care in the following zones: Regina (15). Saskatoon (6), Central East (2), North West (1), and North Central (1).

One hundred and seventy-four more people have recovered, increasing the provincial total to 30,822 recoveries

There were 3,067 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on Mar. 28. To date, 659,170 COVID-19 tests have been processed.
