One Saskatchewan resident who tested positive for COVID-19 has died. The death was reported in the 80-plus age group from the North West zone.
That brings the total number of deaths in the province to 420.
There are 190 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Mar. 24, 2021.
The new cases are located in the Regina (116), Saskatoon (26), North West (10), South East (9), Far North West (7), Central East (5), North East (4), North Central (2), South Central (2), Far North East (1), and South West (1) zones.
One of the new cases in the South Central is located in the South Central 2 sub-zone, which includes Moose Jaw and area.
Seven new cases are pending residence information.
There are now 32,181 reported cases, including 1,565 active cases.
The seven-day average of daily new cases is 173 (14.1 new cases per 100,000).
As of Mar. 23, 954 variants of concern (VOC) have been identified by screening in Saskatchewan, reported in the Regina (824), South Central (56), South East (45), Saskatoon (18), Central East (10), and Far North East (1) zones. These were previously reported as "presumptive positives" but all screening tests will be considered confirmed VOCs for the purposes of public reporting and contact investigations.
There are no new lineage results reported today. Of the 360 VOCs with lineages identified by whole genome sequencing in Saskatchewan, 352 are B1.1.1.7 (UK) and eight are B1.351 (SA).
An additional 2,298 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 151,507.
The 2,298 doses of COVID-19 vaccine reported today were administered in the following regions: Regina (1,177), Saskatoon (953), Far North West (274), Central East (147), Central West (119), South East (103), North East (101), and Far North East (66). The South East zone reported a data correction to remove 642 previously reported vaccinations.
The Pfizer shipments for Regina (15,210 doses) and Saskatoon (17,550) were received yesterday, with the Yorkton (3,510 doses) shipment expected to arrive on Mar. 24 by end of day. A Moderna shipment (24,200 doses) is expected Thursday, Mar. 25.
The Saskatchewan Health Aurhority says more than two-thirds of Saskatchewan residents age 80 and over and 30 per cent of Saskatchewan residents in their 70s have now received their first dose.

One hundred forty-seven people are in hospital. One hundred and twenty-five people are receiving inpatient care in the following zones: Regina (46), Saskatoon (41), Central East (7), South East (7), North West (6), North Central (6), Far North West (4), South Central (4), South West (2), Far North East (1), North East (1). Twenty-two people are in intensive care: Regina (11), Saskatoon (8), Central East (2), and South Central (1).
Ninety-six more people have recovered, increasing the provincial total to 30,196 recoveries.
There were 3,775 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on Mar. 23. To date, 640,259 COVID-19 tests have been processed.
