189 new COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths reported, 246 recoveries

Two Saskatchewan residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have died. One death was reported in the 30 to 39 age group from the North Central zone. One death was reported in the 80-plus age group from the Regina zone.

That brings the total number of deaths in the province to 445.

There are 189 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on April 7, 2021.

The new cases are located in the Regina (74), Saskatoon (43), South East (23), South Central (15), Central East (12), North West (9), Far North West (4), North Central (3), and South West (3) zones.

Fourteen of the 15 new cases in the South Central are located in the South Central 2 sub-zone, which includes Moose Jaw and area.

Three new cases have pending residence information.  

One previously reported case with pending residence information has been assigned to the Regina zone.  

Two cases where Saskatchewan residents were tested out-of-province have been added to the Far North East zone.  

There are now 35,171 reported cases, including 2,138 active cases.

The seven-day average of daily new cases is 226 (18.4 new cases per 100,000).  

An additional 6,738 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 234,209.

The 6,738 doses of COVID-19 vaccine reported today were administered to residents living in the following regions: Saskatoon (2,322), Regina (1,758), North West (665), North Central (651), Central East (562), South East (166), South West (140), South Central (117), Central West (68), North East (57), Far North East (47), Far North West (26), and Far North Central (1). There were 158 doses administered with zone of residence pending.

As of April 7, 2,830 variants of concern have been identified by screening in Saskatchewan, reported in the Regina (1,986), South Central (245), South East (232), Saskatoon (178), Central East (60), North Central (19), South West (14), Central West (12), North West (6), Far North East (4), and Far North West (2) zones. There are 72 cases with area of residence pending.

There are zero new lineage results being reported today. Of the 951 VOCs with lineages identified by whole genome sequencing in Saskatchewan, 943 are B.1.1.1.7 (UK) and eight are B.1.351 (SA).  

Two hundred and one people are in hospital. One hundred and fifty-nine people are receiving inpatient care in the following zones: Regina (76), Saskatoon (42), Central East (17), North West (9), South East (8), North Central (3), Far North West (2), Far North East (1), and South Central (1). Forty-two people are in intensive care in the following zones: Regina (27), Saskatoon (6), North Central (4), South Central (3), and Central East (2).

Two hundred and forty-six more people have recovered, increasing the provincial total to 32,588 recoveries.

There were 3,122 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on April 6. To date, 690,450 COVID-19 tests have been processed.
