173 new COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths reported, 189 recoveries

There are two deaths to report today. One death was reported in the 70 to 79 age group from the Far North East zone and one death was in the 80-plus age group from the North West zone.

That brings the total number of deaths in the province to 524.

There are 173 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on May 21, 2021.  

The new cases are located in the following zones: Saskatoon (34), Regina (30), Central East (25), North West (24), South East (18), North Central (13), Central West (6), South Central (6), Far North West (4), South West (3), Far North East (2), and North East (1). 

All six of the new cases in the South Central are located in the South Central 2 sub-zone, which includes Moose Jaw and area.

Seven cases are pending residence information.

Nine cases tested out of province have been added to the Far North East (3), North West (1), North Central (1), Saskatoon (1), Central East (1), Regina (1), and South West (1) zones.

There are now 45,310 reported cases, including 1,776 active cases.

The seven-day average of new COVID-19 case number is 162 (13.2 new cases per 100,000).  

As of May 20, 9,820 variants of concern have been identified by screening in Saskatchewan, reported in the following zones: Regina (4,498), Saskatoon (1,430), South East (1,006), South Central (703), North West (521), Central East (517), North Central (347), South West (332), Far North West (226), Central West (105), North East (56), and Far North East (20). There are 59 screened VOCs with residence pending.

There are 208 new lineage results reported today. Of the 5,056 VOCs with lineages identified by whole genome sequencing in Saskatchewan, 4,936 are B.1.1.1.7 (UK), 98 are P.1 (Brazilian), 12 are B.1.617 (Indian) and 10 are B.1.351 (SA).

An additional 10,347 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 630,583.  

The 10,347 doses of COVID-19 vaccine reported today were administered to residents living in the following zones: Saskatoon (2,794), Regina (2,686), South Central (982), North Central (767), North West (564), Central East (520), North East (479), South East (448), South West (339), Central West (325), Far North West (126), Far North East (71), and Far North Central (3). There were 243 doses administered with zone of residence pending.

There are 132 people in hospital. One hundred and seven people are receiving inpatient care in the following zones: Regina (43), Saskatoon (37), North Central (7), North West (6), South East (5), Central East (5), South Central (3), and South West (1). Twenty-five people are in intensive care in the following zones: Regina (14), Saskatoon (9), and North Central (2).

One hundred and eighty-nine more people have recovered, increasing the provincial total to 43,010 recoveries.

There were 3,331 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on May 20. To date, 837,028 COVID-19 tests have been processed.
