Two Saskatchewan residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have died. The deaths were reported in the 30 to 39 age group in the Regina zone and the 80-plus age group in the Far North West zone.
That brings the total number of deaths in the province to 409.
There are 156 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Mar. 16, 2021.
The new cases are located in the Regina (101), Saskatoon (16), South East (8), Far North East (7), North West (7), Central East (4), South West (3), Far North West (2), Central West (1), and South Central (1) zones.
The new case in the South Central is located in the South Central 2 sub-zone, which includes Moose Jaw and area.
Six new cases are pending residence information.
Two previously reported cases with pending residence information were assigned to the North Central (1) and North East (1) zones.
There are now 30,883 reported cases, including 1,292 active cases.
The seven-day average of daily new cases is 138 (11.3 new cases per 100,000).
As of Mar. 16, there are 66 new confirmed variants of concern (VOC) cases being reported in the Regina (61), South East (2), Saskatoon (1), Central East (1), and South Central (1) zones. This brings the provincial total to 136, including 130 B1.1.1.7 (UK) and six B1.351 (SA). The Regina zone accounts for 90 per cent of the confirmed VOC cases reported in Saskatchewan.
There are also currently 210 presumptive VOC cases reported in the Regina (186), South Central (10), Central East (5), South East (5), Saskatoon (3), and Far North East (1) zones.
An additional 4,245 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 108,669.
The 4,245 doses of COVID-19 vaccine reported today were administered in the following regions: Far North West (11), Far North East (111), North West (734), North Central (177), Saskatoon (484), Central East (108), Regina (2,055), South West (188) South Central (218) and South East (159).
As of Mar. 16, 50 per cent of Saskatchewan residents age 80-plus have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Last week, before the online and telephone booking systems were launched, the total was just 37 per cent.

One hundred thirty-eight people are in hospital. One hundred and seven people are receiving inpatient care in the following zones: Saskatoon (42), Regina (40), North West (7), North Central (6), Central East (6), Far North West (3), Far North East (1), South Central (1) and South East (1). Thirty-one people are in intensive care in the following zones: Saskatoon (15), Regina (11), Central East (3), North West (1), and South Central (1).
One hundred and sixty-one more people have recovered, increasing the provincial total to 29,182 recoveries.
There were 2,461 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on Mar. 15. To date, 615,067 COVID-19 tests have been processed.
