153 new COVID-19 cases, 5 deaths reported, 120 recoveries

Five Saskatchewan residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have died. The individuals were from the Regina (2), North Central (1), North East (1), and South Central (1) zones and all in the 80-plus age group. That brings the total number of deaths in the province to 165.

There are 153 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan, as of Jan. 5, 2021.

The new cases are located in the Regina (39), Saskatoon (33), North Central (14), North West (13), Central East (13), Far North West (8), Far North East (6), South East (6), North East (5), Central West (1), and South Central (1) and zones.  

Fourteen new cases have pending residence information.

Fifteen previously reported cases with pending residence information have been assigned to the North Central (11), North East (2), South Central (1), and Saskatoon (1) zones.

There are now 16,520 reported cases, including 3,057 active cases

The seven-day average of daily new cases is 214 (17.7 new cases per 100,000 population).

As of Jan. 5, a total of 4,254 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine have been provided in Saskatchewan. The majority of those first doses have been administered to health care workers as part of the pilot project, which is completed in Regina and nearing 90 per cent completion in Saskatoon. Second doses will be administered soon. The province expects a shipment of vaccines to be received in Prince Albert this week to allow vaccinations for eligible health care staff, long term and personal care home residents in the area to begin.

One hundred and sixty-six people are in hospital. One hundred and thirty-five people are receiving inpatient care — 42 in Regina, 40 in Saskatoon, 25 in the North Central, eight in the South East, six in the North West, five in the Central East, three in the North East, two in the South West, two in the South Central, one in the Far North West, and one in the Far North East. Thirty-one people are in intensive care — 14 in Regina, 10 in Saskatoon, four in the North Central, two in the North West, and one in the Central East.

One hundred and twenty more people have recovered, increasing the provincial total to 13,298 recoveries. 

There were 1,779 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on Jan. 4. To date, 437,421 COVID-19 tests have been processed.
