150 new COVID-19 cases, 1 death reported, 152 recoveries

There are 150 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on Mar. 23, 2021.

One  Saskatchewan resident who tested positive for COVID-19 has died. The death was reported in the 60 to 69 age group from the South Central zone.

That brings the total number of deaths to 419.

The new cases are located in the Regina (91), North East (12), North West (9), North Central (8), Saskatoon (8), Central East (8), South East (6), South Central (3), Far North West (1), Far North Central (1), Far North East (1), and South West (1) zones.  

Two of the three new cases in the South Central are located in the South Central 2 sub-zone, which includes Moose Jaw and area.

One new case is pending residence information. 

Three previously reported cases with pending residence information have been assigned to the Regina (2) and North Central (1) zones. One case previously assigned to Saskatoon zone was deemed to be an out of province resident and has been removed. 

There are now 31,991 reported cases, including 1,472 active cases.  

The seven-day average of daily new cases is 158 (12.9 new cases per 100,000). 

As of Mar. 23, 891 variants of concern (VOC) have been identified by screening in Saskatchewan, reported in the Regina (763), South Central (56), South East (43), Saskatoon (18), Central East (10), and Far North East (1) zones. These were previously reported as "presumptive positives" but all screening tests will be considered confirmed VOCs for the purposes of public reporting and contact investigations.  

There are 204 new lineage results reported today. Of the 360 VOCs with lineages identified by whole genome sequencing in Saskatchewan, 352 are B1.1.1.7 (UK) and eight are B1.351 (SA).  

An additional 5,038 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 149,209.

The 5,038 doses of COVID-19 vaccine reported today were administered in the following regions: Regina (2,948), Saskatoon (626), South East (620), Central West (313), Central East (218), South West (158), Far North West (112), North Central (20), North West (12), and Far North East (11). Of the doses administered Mar. 22, 1,873 were delivered at the Regina drive thru clinic.

One hundred fifty-two people are in hospital. One hundred and twenty-six people are receiving inpatient care in the following zones: Regina (45), Saskatoon (42), Central East (9), North West (6), North Central (6), South East (6), Far North West (4), South Central (4), South West (2), Far North East (1), and North East (1). Twenty-six people are in intensive care in the following zones: Regina (15), Saskatoon (8), Central East (2), and South Central (1).

One hundred and fifty-two more people have recovered, increasing the provincial total to 30,100 recoveries.

There were 3,209 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on Mar. 22. To date, 636,484 COVID-19 tests have been processed.
