116 new COVID-19 cases, 1 death reported, 222 recoveries

There is one new death to report today in the 80-plus age group from the South East zone.

That brings the total number of deaths in the province to 527.

There are 116 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan on May 23, 2021. 

The new cases are located in the following zones: Saskatoon (41), Central East (18), Regina (17), North Central (11), Far North West (7), North West (7), South West (5), South East (5), Central West (2), Far North East (1), and South Central (1).  

The new case in the South Central is located in the South Central 2 sub-zone, which includes Moose Jaw and area.

One case is pending residence information. 

One previously reported case with pending residence has been added to the North Central zone.

One case deemed to be an out-of-province resident has been removed from the Regina zone.

There are now 45,605 reported cases, including 1,662 active cases.

The seven-day average of new COVID-19 case number is 152 (12.4 new cases per 100,000).  

As of May 22, 10,049 variants of concern have been identified by screening in Saskatchewan, reported in the following zones: Regina (4,517), Saskatoon (1,516), South East (1,023), South Central (707), Central East (546), North West (544), North Central (371), South West (344), Far North West (231), Central West (106), North East (57), and Far North East (22). There are 65 screened VOCs with residence pending.

There are no new lineage results reported today. Of the 5,431 VOCs with lineages identified by whole genome sequencing in Saskatchewan, 5,273 are B.1.1.1.7 (UK), 124 are P.1 (Brazilian), 24 are B.1.617 (Indian) and 10 are B.1.351 (SA).

An additional 11,004 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 656,388.  

The 11,004 doses of COVID-19 vaccine reported today were administered to residents living in the following zones: Saskatoon (3,507), Regina (2,793), Central East (1,040), South East (821), North Central (751), South Central (576), South West (352), North West (350), North East (295), Central West (184), Far North West (122), Far North East (37), and Far North Central (9). There were 167 doses administered with zone of residence pending.

There are 124 people in hospital. Ninety-seven people are receiving inpatient care in the following zones: Regina (41), Saskatoon (35), North West (8), North Central (4), Central East (4), South East (3), and South Central (2). Twenty-seven people are in intensive care in the following zones: Regina (13), Saskatoon (11), North Central (2), and Central East (1).

Two hundred and twenty-two more people have recovered, increasing the provincial total to 43,416 recoveries.

There were 2,507 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on May 22. To date, 842,964 COVID-19 tests have been processed.
