Riders’ DL Mike Rose views being doubled-teamed by CFL teams as sign of respect

Saskatchewan Roughriders' defensive lineman Mike Rose is used to being double-teamed.

"I take it as a sign of respect," Rose told voice of the Riders Dave Thomas. "That means other people are eating and you see the results. If you block me, that's one-on-one for everybody else."

The Green and White were victorious in their last game when the team defeated the Edmonton Elks 21-18. Saskatchewan's defence sacked Elks' quarterback Cody Fajardo eight times throughout the match-up.

"I think I started getting hot. Some things they've been working on for a few weeks that I've been noticing have been coming together," Rose said. "Shane [Ray] been working on some stuff, Scoop [Carney] been working on some stuff and it came together at the right time."

The six-foot-one, 258-pound defensive linemen has suited up in seven games for the Riders so far this season. He has accumulated six defensive tackles and two sacks. Statistically, among CFL defences in 2025, Saskatchewan's defensive line has helped contribute to leading all teams in sacks with 20.

"We're learning all the time because we all got so many different experiences from so many different places and the old man's still putting good tape out there," Rose said. "It's like a lot of good experiences being spread across each other."

Next on the Riders schedule, the team visits Montreal to take on the Alouettes.

"I think they're a good, solid football team," Rose explained. "A bunch of French people yelling at you, that gets old. You hear those air horns and they have seagulls everywhere."

After the Green and White face the Alouettes, the team goes on a bye week.

"You want to play ball because this is what happens, it's a vicious cycle when you're playing everybody says: "Oh, I can't wait until the bye week," Rose explained.

"Then you get to the bye week, and you're watching everybody play on Thursday, Friday, Saturday. We could have been out there playing. It's a vicious cycle. You want to be out there playing and then you want to take a break for your body. But at the end of the day, we all want to play."

Listen to the Riders pre-game show on Saturday with Teagan Witko, Justin Dunk and Wes Cates at 2 p.m. Dave Thomas and Luc Mullinder have the game call at 5 p.m. You can hear extensive coverage on the 620 CKRM Co-operators Rider Broadcast Network.
