Saskatchewan Roughriders' head coach Corey Mace believes Canadian kicker Brett Lauther can bounce back after making two-of-five field goal attempts against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Week 2.

"You guys are going to know my stance on it: that's Brett Lauther. If it looks like it did last year, then we should probably expect he's going to be banging these through here for the remainder of the season," Mace said post-game. "We had his back, those guys had his back. He's his own biggest critic. We have to make sure we stay positive."

Last week leading into the game at Hamilton Stadium, the Riders practiced indoors which meant Lauther was not able to kick field goals. It's worht noting Saskatchewan has a new holder in punter Joe Couch following Adam Korsak retiring on May 2.

In August 2024, the 34-year-old Lauther missed four-of-seven field goal attempts in a 27-24 loss to the Montreal Alouettes. Following that lowpoint, the Truo, NS native hit 28-of-29 field goals to finish the regular season, including 22 in a row. He went a perfect five-for-five in the West Semi-Final and West Final combined.

Last year, Lauther suited up in 18 regular season games for the Riders. He made 53-of-64 field goals which equals an 82.8 percent conversion rate. The 2013 CFL Draft pick ranked third in the league for field goals made, behind Toronto Argonauts' Lirim Hajrullahu (55) and Ottawa Redblacks' Lewis Ward (58). The seventh year Roughrider ranked second among kickers in points scored (201), one point behind the leader Hajrullahu who scored 202 points.

The Green and White travel to Toronto on Friday to take on the Argonauts. Catch the pre-game show with Teagan Witko, Justin Dunk and Wes Cates at 2:30 p.m. while Dave Thomas and Luc Mullinder will have the call at 5:30 p.m. You can hear everything on the 620 CKRM Co-operators Rider Broadcast Network.
