UFC 319 will be a massive pay-per-view in Chicago that will have Dricus Du Plessis defending his middleweight title against undefeated challenger Khamzat Chimaev in the main event.
Khamzat Chimaev has been grabbing the headlines ever since making his UFC debut back in 2020. The Russian star, who now fights out of Dubai, has a flawless MMA career to date, and he finally gets a shot at a title belt when he takes on the middleweight champion, Dricus Du Plessis, in Chicago on August 16.
Before entering the UFC world, Chimaev had blazed a global trail, winning six bouts in just 18 months (2018-2019). All those wins came within the distance, and he maintained that momentum after putting pen to paper and signing for Dana White’s prestigious promotion. Borz was unleashed to the UFC masses on the undercard of UFC on ESPN: Kattar vs. Ige in the summer of 2020, where he was pitted against John Phillips.

UFC 319 is in the United Center in Chicago, Illinois on August 16. The early prelims start at 6:30 p.m. ET, while the prelims are at 8 p.m. ET. The main card starts at 10 p.m. ET, and du Plessis and Chimaev should make their way to the octagon around 12:30 a.m. ET, depending on how long the undercard fights last.
du Plessis (23-2) won the belt against Sean Strickland. The first South African to become UFC champion has won eleven straight contests, beating the likes of Strickland, Israel Adesanya, and Robert Whittaker.
The multi-time kickboxing champion looks to remain champion while taking down one of the UFC’s biggest monsters.
Chimaev (14-0) impressed in 2020, largely due to his willingness to fight whoever, whenever. Health issues following a COVID-19 infection affected his career. The freestyle wrestling champion beat former champions Kamaru Usman and Whittaker to finally reach contender status.

Du Plessis entered the UFC with an awkward style that seemed to mark him as a fun fighter destined for the middle of the UFC's middleweight rankings. Instead, he turned that awkward style into a puzzle that opponents have not been able to figure out, going on a run that includes wins over multiple former champions, including two successful title defenses.
Saturday's main event sees South Africa's Dricus du Plessis aiming for a third successful title defense in a row as he takes on unbeaten Russian challenger Khamzat Chimaev.
Du Plessis claimed the title with a win over Sean Strickland at the start of last year and comes into this fight off the back of an unanimous decision victory in a rematch with Strickland at UFC 312 in February.
Chimaev hasn't fought since his win over former champ Robert Whittaker at UFC 308 last October, in a devastating performance that saw him dislocate the New Zealander's jaw in a first-round submission.
