The Maple Leafs fought back from 2-0 and 3-2 deficits to force overtime in Game 4, but a shot by Jake Sanderson through traffic lit the lamp and extended the Senators' season. Tim Stutzle and Shane Pinto each scored their first playoff goals, while David Perron had a goal, and Linus Ullmark made 31 saves for the Senators.
It has been an incredibly tight series, with three of the four games going into overtime. It's in the stressful minutes that the Maple Leafs have proven to be the better team. Game 1 of the series has been the lone one not to make it to overtime. The Maple Leafs won the opener 6-2.
A sobering statistic for the Maple Leafs is their 1-12 record in close-out games in the playoffs since 2017. It may help the Maple Leafs' confidence to learn that the Senators came in having missed the playoffs for seven straight seasons before this one.
