Dry conditions continue to help farmers make steady harvest progress, but more rain would be beneficial.

Eighty-nine per cent of the crop has been combined, up from 77 per cent the week prior. Farmers are still well ahead of the five-year (2015-2019) average of 67 per cent for this time of year.

Harvest in the southwest region is nearly complete, with 99 per cent of the crop now combined. Progress in the rest of the province is as follows: the southeast region is at 96 per cent, the west-central at 90 per cent, the east-central at 82 per cent combined, the northeast at 81 per cent, and the northwest at 66 per cent.

Ninety-nine per cent of durum, 98 per cent of chickpeas, 97 per cent of barley, 88 per cent of spring wheat, 87 per cent of oats, 80 per cent of canola, 69 per cent of flax, and 59 per cent of soybeans have now been combined.

Most of the province failed to receive much rainfall last week. As a result, moisture conditions remain at the same levels. Cropland topsoil moisture is rated as 35 per cent adequate, 40 per cent short, and 25 per cent very short. Hay and pasture land topsoil moisture is rated as 25 per cent adequate, 34 per cent short, and 41 per cent very short.

Farmers will need more rain in the coming weeks to help with moisture levels next year.
