Cattle producers gather for Parkland Angus Tour

Multiple livestock farms around the Melville area will be involved in the tour.
CATTLE

Saskatchewan's Parkland Region is hosting an Angus tour this year.

Troy Frick, owner of Northern View Angus located in the Neudorf area, said these tours are held once a year and are a Saskatchewan Angus Association-led initiative with local Angus breeders from different regions of the province taking turns hosting it.

It begins Tuesday with a social event at the Sigma Inn & Suites in Melville at 7 p.m. Registration is Wednesday at 8 a.m. and the tour gets underway at 9 a.m.

Participants will visit JJL Livestock near Melville, Northern View Angus and Hollinger Land and Cattle in the Neudorf area, and 3 Square S Angus near Grayson. Meals will be provided throughout the tour.

Frick noted the last time they hosted a tour was 2015, recalling a good turnout of 100 to 125 people. They're preparing for 250 to 275 people this time.

"We're expecting people from all over Canada to come in and have a look and a visit," said Frick, who is looking forward to being a part of the tour.

"We're getting all of our pairs home, just getting our heifer calf pairs home now, getting them sorted. Then we have a couple of bull calf pastures to stop that and bring in, and then it's just preparing the site itself."

While black and red Angus, cow-calf pairs, and bred heifers will be featured on the tour, Frick says it's also about making connections.

"You never know how it's going to play out down the road as far as, somebody being interested in some of your stock or where you might make a connection and be buying stock from somebody else. It's always good in that way too, so it's all about connecting; it's also about building a business and great relationships."

More information about the tour can be found on the Saskatchewan Angus Association website as well as the social media pages of the host livestock operations.
