A California-based farm supply company’s attempts to establish online Canadian operations have resulted in a federal investigation of chemical company’s business practices.

Farm Business Network runs an online market in the United States where farmers can buy pesticides, seed and other ag inputs.

The FB Network alleges the suppliers stopped selling product to a farm supply company it purchased two years ago and the inability to sell branded products may hinder operations or even force closure in Canada.

The Canadian Competition Bureau said it is investigating some agricultural suppliers on allegations of anti-competitive practices.

Court documents indicate Bayer AG, Coretva Inc. BASF, Cargill and Univar Solutions Inc. are under investigation.

Documents show the investigation seeks records and information from the wholesalers.
